A TROLLEY'S ESCAPE

This project was a paired assignment lasting only two weeks.  We were given the term ‘escape’ and asked to produce an outcome that could be presented in a 15 minute public pitch. At this time I was hoping to hone my filmography and editing skills and thus took this as an opportunity to do so.

What came out of the two weeks was a short series that followed a trolley’s escape from its home, the supermarket, out into the world.  Whilst doing so the audience witness a fundamental change in the trolley's personality through a variety of different challenges and hardships.  I suppose, if nothing else, this a coming of age story.

Of course I recognise the absurdity of this, but as an outcome of this project I not only achieved my aim of developing my skills, but also learnt some valuable lessons in advertising and promotion for brands and their products. I realised that to create a bridge between an audience and a protagonist (a trolley in this case), makes the viewer feel strong emotions for the character and thus, if used in the correct situation, can create a strong, positive brand identity. This project was a great success in my eyes.  I hope to create series two of ‘Ley’s Escape’ in the near future.

The above video is the entire first series, split into four individual episodes. Each has been designed to have a strong, structured story arch that works actively within the wider story of Ley's life.
