THE GOLDSMITHS PRIZE 2018
“The Goldsmiths Prize was established in 2013 to celebrate the qualities of creative daring associated with the University and to reward fiction that breaks the mould or extends the possibilities of the novel form. The annual prize of £10,000 is awarded to a book that is deemed genuinely novel and which embodies the spirit of invention that characterises the genre at its best.” www.gold.ac.uk/goldsmiths-prize/about/
Since its creation, the founders of the Goldsmiths Prize have worked closely with the Goldsmiths Design department in order to handpick students each year to create a one of a kind trophy that is presented to the winner of this literary prize. In 2018 myself and Maja Nordblom (linked below) were lucky enough to be commissioned to design and create our version of this prestigious trophy.
What followed was an intensive week of initial client consultations, design development and manufacture. The outcome was praised as both progressive, due to its method of production (mainly casting, following mostly wood and metal based trophies in previous years) and very well produced (particularly in relation to the unusually short deadline).
